1. Where are you from & why did you join Feedbacknation?
I'm a Madison, Wisconsin native and attend University of Wisconsin-Madison (but my heart lies in the West!). I joined Feebacknation in large part because the Midwest doesn't have a particularly strong community of young photographers and instagrammers, in the hopes that in addition to receiving feedback on my work I would be able to make connections across the country/globe as well as some closer to my current location!
2. What inspires you to create art?
I'm driven by the immense beauty of the world around me, particularly the natural world. I've tried many times, but I can't quite seem to properly explain the way I feel when I'm out in the mountains, a forest, or anywhere that you can feel the earth breathe -- I get this lifted feeling in my heart and soul, and that's what really inspires me. Living in the Midwest has taught me to find beauty in things less extraordinary: while my heart lies in the mountains, Wisconsin is mountain-less, so I've learned to be amazed and inspired by everything in the natural world, big and small, from sunbeams to canyons. There is something that is so special about being able to take a photograph and capture a moment – to a have a window to step back into that memory and experience everything about it again. To be able to tell a story, immortalize a smile, and capture the world is the most incredible thing to me. Great music, beautiful light, little moments, tall trees, and so many more little things make my hear.
3. What about you, would you like the nation to know?
As a fine arts student I get to do a lot of work that isn't photography, though photography is my focus. I recently fell in love with serigraphy and have been cranking out prints like it's my job, and I love drawing with micron pens as well as doing watercolor paintings! My photography and other art often have similar subjects, and feed off of one another. I'm also majoring in Environmental Studies. I go to school for art and nature, and I think that's pretty neat! I've got a super excellent tattoo of the Grand Tetons on my foot that's really, really photogenic. I take it "home" to the Tetons as often as I can!
4. (Optional) This is your canvas. Tell the nation anything you'd like. This can be anything from a personal story to goals and aspirations you have.
